Music Lessons for Kids

We currently have children as young as 5 years old taking lessons at the Mike Middleton Guitar Academy. Children this young typically take a little time to make a lot of progress on guitar. A child between the ages of 5 and 7 may be playing a year or so before they start playing anything that sounds like real music. However during this time children are acquiring a lot of skills. They are learning how to hold the guitar, the names of the strings, note names on the guitar neck, how to read guitar tablature, chord charts and music notation. They are learning how to strum, count rhythms, pick single notes and fret notes on the guitar. All of this takes a little time.

We promise to have a lot of patience with your child while learning these skills. We have a lot of experience with teaching children and adults and we know how difficult it is to learn an instrument. If it were easy everyone would know how to play.

Parents are

welcome to sit in on lessons with their child. This gives parents the chance to hear the concepts that are being taught. It allows the parent to know exactly how their child is progressing on guitar without having to discuss it with the teacher. Parents may also want to discuss information about the child's learning style with the teacher.

Parents are also welcome to take lessons with their child. It can be an activity that children and parents can do together. Children of the age of 5 or 6 may even want to be begin with ukulele lessons and start guitar later. Ukulele can be an easier instrument for young children due to it's smaller size and the fact that is has only 4 stings instead of 6.

We also offer mandolin and bass guitar lessons at the Mike Middleton Guitar Academy. but I recommend starting these lessons after having a goold grasp of guitar.
